Overview

This breast ultrasound protocol manual describes routine scanning procedures for screening and diagnostic breast ultrasound. Objectives

  • Differentiate screening and diagnostic breast ultrasound indications.
  • Perform standardized breast ultrasound scanning techniques, including patient positioning, image optimization, and appropriate documentation of findings.
  • Apply mammographic–sonographic triangulation to accurately localize abnormalities during diagnostic ultrasound.
  • Recognize benign and suspicious sonographic features of breast lesions using BI-RADS terminology.
  • Identify findings requiring immediate radiologist notification and effectively communicate technical limitations.

Audience

Physicians, PA’s, sonographers and other medical professionals who will be involved with performing and/or interpreting breast ultrasound examinations. Physicians participants may include (but is not limited to) radiology, general surgery, OB-GYN, internal medicine, and primary care.
