  • Ocular ultrasound techniques: retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, and optic nerve sheath diameter measurement
  • Airway ultrasound applications: endotracheal tube verification, cricothyroid membrane identification, and difficult airway assessment
  • Thoracic ultrasound fundamentals: pneumothorax detection, pleural effusion identification, lung sliding, and A-lines versus B-lines.

Objectives

  • Identify normal ocular ultrasound anatomy.
  • Outline protocols for performing ocular ultrasound.
  • Apply measurements for evaluation for increased intracranial pressure.
  • Recognize normal airway anatomy.
  • Apply airway ultrasound to confirm endotracheal tube placement.
  • Identify commonly seen artifacts in lung imaging that may affect diagnostic accuracy.
  • Recognize imaging characteristics and apply diagnostic criteria for the evaluation of pneumothorax, pleural effusion, lung consolidation, and pulmonary edema.
