Overview

The Introduction & Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Blended Combined Course is intended for any medical professional involved with performing point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) examinations and provides participants a strong foundation to perform the core and advanced ultrasound applications as outlined in the ACEP and ACGME ultrasound practice guidelines. The Blended Education format provides flexibility while saving you time and minimizing travel costs.

Begin with the self-paced online course: Taught by leading emergency medicine ultrasound experts, the online course incorporates comprehensive lectures, case presentations, and post-activity quizzes covering core and advanced ultrasound applications with fifteen (15) months unlimited access.

Then attend Scanning Skills Workshop: Join us in sunny St. Petersburg, FL for a Two (2) Day (12 Hours) scanning skills workshop at our state-of-the-art facility. The extensive hands-on scanning skills workshop features the industry lowest 3:1 participant to faculty ratio allowing the participant to immediately integrate the skills learned into clinical practice. Hands-on skills training includes cardiac, trauma, DVT, ultrasound for shock & hypotension, soft-tissue/MSK, ultrasound-guided vascular access & nerve block applications as well as transabdominal and endovaginal gynecological scan techniques. Objectives

  • Increase participant’s knowledge to better perform and/or interpret emergency medicine and critical care ultrasound examinations
  • State the basic fundamentals of ultrasound physics and demonstrate appropriate optimization of system controls.
  • Perform scan protocols for focused evaluation of the trauma patient (E-FAST exam), pneumothorax, abdomen, aorta/IVC, DVT, ocular, airway, thoracic, soft tissue and musculoskeletal applications, adult heart, acute scrotum, and female pelvis.
  • State an algorithm for uses of bedside ultrasound during cardiac arrest, shock & hypotension.
  • Demonstrate image orientation, transducer preparation, and scan protocols for performing use of ultrasound guidance for central & peripheral vascular access, pericardiocentesis, paracentesis, thoracentesis, hemothorax, lumbar puncture, and joint aspiration.
  • Differentiate normal/abnormal image characteristics of the abdomen, female pelvis, first trimester OB, and ectopic pregnancy.
  • Identify sonographic characteristics associated with abdominal sepsis involving the hepatobiliary, renal, and GI systems.
  • Recognize ultrasound characteristics associated with MI and complications.
  • Recall the POCUS evaluation of the Right Heart and recognize certain echo mimics.
  • State an algorithm for assessing hydration status and fluid responsiveness with point-of-care ultrasound.
  • Recognize the sonographic appearance of individual nerves and list the advantages of using ultrasound-guided nerve block techniques.
  • Increase competence to incorporate protocols, scan techniques, and interpretation criteria into clinical practice.
