Objectives

At the completion of this enduring material, the participant should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the participant's knowledge to better perform and/or interpret MSK ultrasound examinations.
  2. State the basic fundamentals of ultrasound physics.
  3. Demonstrate proper transducer manipulation to produce diagnostic images.
  4. Identify normal and pathological ultrasound imaging characteristics of musculoskeletal anatomy of the upper extremity.
  5. Demonstrate scanning protocols for performing upper extremity examinations.
  6. Increase confidence to incorporate protocols, techniques & interpretation criteria to improve diagnostic/treatment.
  7. Identify common artifacts and pitfalls when scanning the different joints of the upper extremity.
  8. Apply ultrasound techniques to properly scan and recognize pathology of the upper extremity.
Target Audience
Physicians and sonographers who are involved with the ultrasound evaluation of the musculoskeletal system of the upper extremities. Physician participants may include (but are not limited to) those involved with specialties in: radiology, orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, rheumatology, and emergency medicine.
