ST. PETE BEACH, FL, SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2008 — In an effort to provide greater benefit to sonographers who also have RT (Radiologic Technologist) credentials, Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute Inc. recently announced that it now offers Category A credits for selected sonography courses and registry review products in order to fulfill ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) CME requirements. The Category A credits are awarded by the SDMS (Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography). Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute offers AMA Category 1 CME credits. Some have asked which type of credit they should use. The information below should help clarify the issue.
When to use AMA Category 1 CME credits
Sonographers, whether or not they also have RT credentials, should always use AMA Category 1 CME credits awarded by Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute to fulfill their ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) certification.
When to use SDMS CME credits
Sonographers who also have an RT certification should use the SDMS credits they earn at Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute to maintain their ARRT certification. SDMS credits are recognized by the ARRT as Category A CME credits. This, of course, also applies to RTs without a sonography certification who take advantage of the applicable Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute courses or registry review products. We hope this helps in clarifying any confusion. If you have any questions whatsoever regarding this matter, please contact us at U.S. toll free 1-800-619-1900 or at (727)363-4500.
